Argos was founded in 1973 and is the UK's leading general merchandise retailer with sales of over £3.5 billion (as per financial year April 2004-March 2005). Argus is the UK number one retailer for small electrical appliances, toys and housewares.
Argos is owned by GUS plc and part of the Argos Retail Group. There are now over 600 Argos stores throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, and over the next few years, it is expected that 95% of the GB population will live within 10 miles of an Argos store.
Argos publishes two catalogues a year, the autumn/winter edition in July and the spring/summer one in January. You can shop at Argos in 3 different ways:
- In-store - you can browse the catalogues, check availability of stock and buy the goods you like.
- Online through their website - You can buy goods from the catalogue to be delivered at home, or reserved to be picked up in-store.
- By telephone - You can order by calling Argos and you can also check stock availability and reserve goods by sending a SMS message or by using Vodafone Live!
Argos also offers a home delivery service through Argos Direct which will deliver throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Standard delivery costs £4.95, with next day and Saturday delivery available for £2.95 extra. Argos do also offer free returns promotion.
